FLORENCE, S.C. -- A Florence County Sheriff’s deputy has died, one week after crashing his car while on the way to provide another deputy with backup.
The Florence Morning News reports that 23-year-old deputy Joseph Antwine crashed his 2009 Dodge Charger about 8:30 p.m. Nov. 22 near Johnsonville.
Capt. Mike Nunn confirmed that Antwine died Friday. The Lake City resident graduated from The Citadel in 2012 with a degree in criminal justice.
Another deputy in the single-vehicle crash was released from the hospital earlier in the week.
Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said Friday the South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the wreck.
Highway Patrol Sgt. Bob Beres has said Antwine was wearing his seatbelt.
