This week’s photo assignment, Birds of the Lowcountry, proved two things.
One, the Lowcountry provides a stunning backdrop for a wide variety of beautiful birds and two, that we have a wealth of photography talent here in the Lowcountry.
Our editors were blown away by the sheer number of outstanding photos, any number of which could have been selected by our editors without argument. However, they could only pick one and after much discussion they picked Carl Miller’s magnificent photo of a snowy egret dipping its wing in the water while gliding along near Huntington Beach Park.
Pick up a copy of Saturday’s People section to read in their own words why they chose that photo.
We also have some exciting news about next week’s contest: Not only will the editor’s pick appear in Saturday’s newspaper but several of the photos will also appear in Lowcountry Parent magazine, depending on how many entries we get.
Next week’s assignment: Your 2013 vacations. These can be from anywhere, we just ask that they were from this year.
Here are the rules:
- Send one (1) photograph to email@example.com by noon on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Include your name, town and where the photo was taken. If you send us multiple photos we will select one randomly.
- If you want your photo to be eligible to run in the newspaper, it must be at least 1,500 pixels. Our editors will select which photo will appear each week. We reserve the right to not publish any photo for any reason.
- We will allow photographs with reasonable watermarks to run in the gallery but for the winning photo that runs in the newspaper we must have a photo that does not have a watermark. If you want to send us one with the watermark (to run online) and one without (to possibly run in the newspaper) please feel free.
