Motorcyclist who died after wreck in North Charleston identified

A motorcyclist who died in a wreck in North Charleston Monday night has been identified.

He was Robert Hardy III, 23, who was on active duty with the Air Force, according to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.

Officers were called shortly before midnight to the area of Highway 52 and Highway 78 to investigate a wreck, North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. Investigators determined that the motorcyclist hit a guard rail while speeding on the exit ramp, he said.

The rider was transported in critical condition to Medical University Hospital and later died.

The accident remained under investigation Tuesday.
