The Charleston County legislative delegation will accept applications for the vacant county school board seat until Nov. 27.
Retired business executive John Barter resigned his seat Sunday, and the delegation will nominate someone to fill his spot at its Dec. 9 meeting. Their pick would go to Gov. Nikki Haley for consideration, and if approved, would serve until the November 2014 election.
To be eligible for the position, residents must be registered voters in Charleston County and live in West Ashley, which also includes Johns Island, James Island, Hollywood, Seabrook and Kiawah.
School board meetings are held twice each month at 5:15 p.m. Mondays, and board members do not receive a salary. They do receive a per diem of $25 per scheduled meeting.
For more information or to obtain an application, call the delegation office at 740-5855.
