Another small earthquake rumbles beneath Summerville, Ladson

A 1.7-magnitude earthquake rumbled beneath the Summerville and Ladson areas just after midnight Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake was reported at 12:09 a.m. about 3 miles south-southwest of Ladson and 6 miles south-southeast of Summerville.

Small earthquakes are common in the area. Experts say they are not necessarily a precursor of a larger earthquake.
