The Citadel wrestling team used six pins, two forfeits and a major decision to top Anderson, 52-4, in the season-opening dual on Sunday at McAlister Field House.
The Bulldogs opened with a 12-0 lead after Anderson forfeited the 197- and 285-pound bouts and quickly extended their lead to 24-0 after a second-round pin by Joaquin Marquez at 125 and a first-round fall by Aaron Hansen at 133.
The Trojans got on the board in the 141-pound bout as Zach Hale won by major decision over Nick Kiter, but the Bulldogs cruised to four more pins at 149 by Aaron Walker, 165 by Kenneth Radford, 174 by Turtogtokh Luvsandorj and 184 by Jack Duane.
Defending conference champion Matt Frisch earned the 9-1 major decision in his first match of the season and improved his career dual mark to 12-2.
The Citadel heads to Annapolis, Md., to compete in the Navy Classic next weekend.
Top seed Coastal Carolina used a pair of second half goals to defeat No. 7 seed Liberty, 2-0, in the championship of the Big South tournament in Greensboro, N.C. Coastal Carolina won its first conference title since 2010 and its 11th overall Big South championship.
The Chanticleers (16-4) receive the Big South’s automatic bid to the NCAA men’s tournament and will find out who they will play in Monday’s NCAA selection show at noon.
In Greenville, Elon got a goal from Jason Waterman in the 103rd minute to lift Elon to a 1-0 win over Wofford in the Southern Conference men’s championship. Elon (15-4-2) clinched the automatic NCAA berth with its third straight conference title.
