When shoppers scout big-ticket items, they spilt into camps: One group prefers the value of a model “as is,” others crave the luxury of “all the bells and whistles.”

It’s not too much of stretch, then, to consider a house for sale in Dunes West as an overlap of the widely varied options.

The property shapes up as a solid, dependable residence – notwithstanding a whim or two. But the Mount Pleasant house and land also would easily absorb heaping helpings of whistles and bells if that were the purchaser’s preference.

Situated just off the noteworthy Dunes West Country Club golf course, 3415 Col. Vanderhorst Circle touts four bedrooms, three baths and a 1.08 acre lot. The house is on the market for $529,000, says Robbie Downer, Realtor with The AgentOwned Realty Co. and listing agent.

“This home offers it all,” he says in the listing information. “Everything about this property has been tastefully decorated and very well maintained.”

The Bonnette family built the 2,791-square-foot brick house in 2000. The residence sits within the gated section of Dunes West, a sprawling upscale community spanning east from S.C. Highway 41.

In time, the family went to work making changes. They constructed a finished room over the garage, converting the space into an ample sleeping area with bathroom and adding a dormer window to let in more light.

“The original floor plan didn’t include that,” owner Robert Bonnette says.

Two or three years ago, the kitchen went through a makeover. Designers installed granite countertops; stainless steel refrigerator, stove, dishwasher and microwave; and small wine cellar with a bar overtop. An extra-large copper farm sink centers the lunch counter.

Just recently, the two-car garage was remodeled for more space while receiving a touch-up.

Still, the original framework at 3415 Col. Vanderhorst Circle remains. The entrance leads to the living room, marked by an extra-high peaked ceiling, gas fireplace and four-speaker sound system that also supplies music to the screened-in porch.

The great room gives way to an open breakfast nook, which in turn abuts the kitchen. The formal dining room, sporting a window view of the elongated front yard, can be reached from the foyer and kitchen.

On the garage side of the house, the master suite sits back to offer privacy. The ample bedroom includes a walk-in closet; and a whirlpool tub, shower and vanity sinks spotlight the master bathroom. Other perks include a laundry with washer and dryer.

Two sizable guest bedrooms, showcasing a full bathroom in between, take up positions on the opposite wing of the house.

Behind the residence stands the well-appointed screen porch complete with tile floors. It’s accessible through the living room and opens to a separate deck off the porch. There’s also a small lawn in back.

Bonnette says the yard opens up possibilities for expansion. “The property goes back 40 or 50 feet,” stretching into the tree canopy, he says. The woods can be cleared a bit “if someone wants to do a backyard for kids.”

Downer calls the custom built home behind the gates of Dunes West Country Club “a must see.”

Located just off the Wagner Point entryway at the intersection of Col. Vanderhorst and Shell Ring circles, the home sits in a prime location “to all that Dunes West has to offer,” Downer says.

Homeowner Bonnette sees the house as fine for a couple but also practical for a small to midsized family, as a result of the FROG and guest rooms. “You can have a couple of kids out there,” he says.

The property stands toward the middle of Dunes West. Heading north, take U.S. Highway 17 through Mount Pleasant. About three miles past the Isle of Palms connector turnoff, steer left on Highway 41. Proceed close to four miles and make a right on Dunes West Boulevard. Go a mile and turn left past the security gate on Wando Plantation Way. Make the second right on Col. Vanderhorst Circle. Continue a few hundred yards, going by Shell Ring Circle. On the right is 3415 Col. Vanderhorst Circle.
