A horse collar penalty, a pick six interception and a bad punt snap resulted in three Timmonsville touchdowns over a four-minute span as the Whirlwinds rolled to a 30-0 victory over Cross, dashing the Trojans’ hopes of defending their Division II-A state championship.

The Cross offense fell apart after its first series of the game stalled inside the Timmonsville 40-yard line.

Four fumbles and an interception nullified any sustainable offense for the Trojans (6-6). The best scoring opportunity for Cross came on its opening possession of the second half, as Devontae Shepherd single-handedly carried the Trojans on his back with 58 yards on five plays. The drive ended at the 9-yard line when Timmonsville recovered a Cross fumble.

Tamaric Jones threw three touchdown passes to lead Timmonsville (6-6).
