HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.-- It’s going to be a brighter new year for cultural and tourism groups on Hilton Head Island.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that a town tax panel has recommended that 23 groups should split $3.4 million in accommodation tax revenues for everything from festivals to fireworks next year.
The resort town collected about $1 million more this year than in 2012, in part because of a stronger summer tourist season,
The newspaper reports it’s also due to efforts to collect back taxes and penalties from property owners, legal settlements with online travel companies and adjustments to the distribution of state tax money.
