Medal of Honor Bowl Spotlight: Clemson offensive lineman Brandon Thomas
Each Friday, The Post and Courier will spotlight a player on the watch list for the Medal of Honor Bowl all-star game, set for 2 p.m. Jan. 11, 2014, at Johnson Hagood Stadium. Tickets are on sale at www.MOHbowl.com
POSITION: Offensive line. YEAR: Senior.
HEIGHT: 6-3. WEIGHT: 305.
2013: Thomas, a graduate-student senior from Spartanburg, was named ACC offensive lineman of the week on Oct. 28 after grading at 90 percent with five knockdown blocks against Maryland. It was the third straight game the left tackle graded as Clemson’s top lineman. He graded out at a career-high 96 percent against Virginia and has started 32 of Clemson’s last 36 games. He was first-team all-ACC last season.
QUOTE: “Brandon Thomas exhibits all the classic traits you look for in an NFL lineman ... quick thinker, good knee bend, balance, and the ability to anchor. He’s a solid run and pass blocker who sustains and finishes on almost every play. I project him as a late fourth- to early fifth-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.” — Brian Woods, executive director of the Medal of Honor Bowl.
OTHER LINEMEN ON WATCH LIST: Andrew Norwell, Ohio State; John Urschel, Penn State; Bryan Stork, Florida State; D.J. Morrell, Old Dominion; Cornelius Lucas, Kansas State.
