Charleston Southern’s 31-26 victory over Coastal Carolina last week has vaulted the Buccaneers to No. 12 in the latest FCS Coaches Poll.
The Bucs are 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big South with games at Gardner-Webb and against Liberty at home left to play. Coastal Carolina (9-1) fell from No. 3 to No. 9 in the coaches’ poll.
Charleston Southern’s only loss this season was a 43-10 setback at Colorado, which is a member of the Pac-12 Conference.
The Bucs are one of only two teams in the poll with 10 victories — No, 6 Fordham is 10-0. Top-ranked North Dakota State is 9-0.
From the Southern Conference, Chattanooga (8-2) is at No. 18 after clinching at least a share of the league title; Wofford (5-4) slipped to No. 21; and Samford (6-3) fell out of the rankings with consecutive losses to The Citadel and Furman.
In their victory against Coastal Carolina, CSU was led by running back Christian Reyes and quarterback Daniel Croghan III. Both players were recognized Monday by the Big South Conference for their efforts.
Reyes was named the conference’s offensive player of the week after rushing for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Croghan was named freshman of the week after completing 14 of 21 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. The redshirt freshman from Bishop England High School also rushed nine times for 43 yards.
