When South Carolina and Florida kick off Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium, the Gamecocks will have a good idea of what’s at stake in the game.
USC and Florida will kick off 7 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2. Georgia and Auburn will kick off 3:30 p.m. on CBS in the SEC’s premier game, the network announced Sunday. CBS waited a week to announce which game it will air Saturday, choosing between Florida’s trip to South Carolina and Georgia’s trip to Auburn.
USC may have missed the SEC’s top timeslot – surprisingly, it will go the entire 2013 season without playing on CBS – but the schedule works to its benefit.
The Gamecocks need the Bulldogs to lose Saturday to have any chance of winning the SEC East. Both teams have two conference losses, and Georgia owns the head-to-head tiebreaker because of a win over USC in early September.
Georgia’s final SEC game will come against Kentucky in two weeks, but it will be heavy favorites in that game.
USC needs more than a Georgia loss – namely, one more Missouri defeat. Mizzou plays at Ole Miss and home against Texas A&M to end the season. Without a Georgia loss, it doesn’t matter what Mizzou does the rest of the way.
USC’s goal is to make it to Atlanta, site of the SEC Championship Game. Surely, the Gamecocks will keep one eye on the scoreboard Saturday as it prepares for Florida.
