HARDEEVILLE, S.C. -- Two people have died following a two-car crash on U.S. Highway 17 on the South Carolina side of the Savannah River in Jasper County.
The wreck happened late Wednesday afternoon near the bridge that leads to downtown Savannah, Ga.
The Highway Patrol says it happened when a car traveling southbound crossed the center lane and hit a second vehicle head on.
The driver of the southbound car died at the scene. The driver of the second car died later at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.
Coroner Martin Sauls said the names of the victims have not yet been released so relatives can be notified.
