For the fifth consecutive year, the College of Charleston coed sailing team won the SAISA Fall Coed Dinghy Championship regatta as a total of 12 races were sailed over the weekend on the Cooper River and Crab Bank in Charleston Harbor.
The Cougars (51 points) claimed a 23-point victory over conference rival South Florida (74 points). Eckerd College (90) placed third, Jacksonville (119) fourth and Clemson (145) fifth. A total of 12 conference teams participated in the event.
College of Charleston needed four sets to down last-place Towson (8-22, 1-10 CAA), but the Cougars’ defense dug in and C of C won a 3-1 decision
(23-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-20).
Charleston (20-4, 10-0) reached 20 wins for the sixth time in the last seven years under head coach Jason Kepner.
In the final tuneup before Friday’s season opener, the College of Charleston women’s team posted an 81-54 exhibition victory over Lander at TD Arena.
Alyssa Frye and Erin Hall led all scorers with 19 and 18 points, respectively.
Two Citadel wrestlers won
titles in their respective weight divisions Saturday in the Bulldogs’ season-opening tournament at McAlister Field House. The event included more than 275 wrestlers from 25 schools from around the Southeast.
Freshman Terrell Forbes took first place in the 157-pound bracket, while redshirt freshman Aaron Walker won the 149-pound division.
