Event marks release of Moultrie biography

C.L. Bragg, author of “Crescent Moon over Carolina: William Moultrie and American Liberty,” will speak and sign copies of his book 2 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Charleston Library Society, 164 King St.

The book release event is presented by the Society of Colonial Wars and the Society of the Cincinnati.

Moultrie, who served two terms as governor of South Carolina and became an influential elder statesman, had his defining moment when he helped defend a small fort at the entrance to Charleston harbor in 1776.

“Crescent Moon,” published by the University of South Carolina Press, is part scholarly survey of Lowcountry culture, part history of the American Revolution and part biography.

The book release event is free and open to the public. Reserve a seat by calling 723-9912.
