Kennedy has been almost automatic on PATs and is hitting on most of his field goal attempts. He’s been selected to play in the North-South All-Star Football Game, which will be held Dec. 14 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach.
“That’s a huge honor,” Kennedy said. “You can’t ask for more than that. It is an honor to be considered one of the top kickers in the state.”
Kennedy has connected on 35 of 36 PAT attempts heading into Friday’s game against Ashley Ridge. He’s made 8 of 12 field goal attempts, with a long of 45 yards. He’s kicked off 44 times, and 27 of his kicks have gone for touchbacks.
He also handles punting duties and is averaging 39 yards per punt. Seven of his punts landed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line, and another three were downed inside the 5-yard line.
“I hold myself to a higher standard,” Kennedy said. “If you’re not first, you are not working hard enough.”
Kennedy is one of 16 players from the Lowcountry on the South squad. He will be joined by teammate Sean Smith, a talented tight end.
Four others local schools will have two players in the game: third-ranked Goose Creek, fifth-ranked Stratford, West Ashley and Beaufort.
Goose Creek will send defensive back Omar McRae and wide receiver Jordan Barnes. Stratford’s picks are running back Jordan Johnson and linebacker Cecil Smith. West Ashley’s selections are linebacker Bobby Ruff and offensive lineman Brett Toth. Tight end Stephen Baggett and defensive lineman Kentrell Seabrook will represent Beaufort.
The other local players who will showcase their talents are Wando wide receiver Trevor Pederson, St. John’s running back Trevson Coakley, Georgetown linebacker Jordan Ward, Hilton Head running back Khalil Lewis, Fort Dorchester wide receiver Corey Rawlings and Hanahan wide receiver Terrell Green.
