The South Carolina Coaches Association of Women’s Sports (CAWS) has released its all-state teams in volleyball, and the Lowcountry is well represented.
Wando’s Natalie Tucker and Britney Vallez made the Class AAAA team and are joined by Bluffton’s Mackenzie Cooler and Jordan Franklin.
Class AAA all-state selections include Mary Seibert of James Island; Sierra Davis of Hilton Head; and Jamie Courtney of Hanahan.
Class AA selections include Mary Harriet Moore and Sawyer Swanson, Bishop England; Jessica Elizondo and Taylor Ravenell, Timberland; and Katelin Hills, Hanahan.
Class A picks include Shanya Lisbon and Kortnee Johno, Cross; and Kimberlyn Stroud, Charleston Charter.
The North-South teams also were announced.
Local players named to the Class AAAA-AAA South squad include Tucker, Vallez, Cooler, along with Dekeiya Cohen of West Ashley; Mallory Lewis of Hilton Head; and Diemond Richardson of Goose Creek.
Local players named to the Class AA-A South team include Moore, Hills, Elizondo and Swanson.
The North-South games will be played Nov. 21 at Erskine College
Adams commits to ‘Bama
Bishop England swimming standout Matthew Adams recently committed to swim for the University of Alabama.
“Alabama has a very experienced coaching staff and is a team that has huge potential. Roll tide,” he said in a press release.
Adams is arguably the top recruit in South Carolina in the class of 2014.
He broke state meet records in the 200-yard individual medley (1:50.78) and the 100 freestyle (45.32). Adams also was on the winning 200- and 400-free relays.
Adams also swims for the LTP Racing Club.
His other top times include a 51.89 in the 100 back, 1:50.37 in the 200 back, and 1:38.24 in the 200 free, where he finished fourth at last year’s Winter Junior Nationals.
Adams competed over the summer at USA Swimming’s Junior Nationals in Irvine in his four strongest events. He has swum long course times of 52.94 in the 100 free, 1:55.43 in the 200 free, 58.78 in the 100 back, and 2:05.01 in the 200 back.
Summerville softball standout Taylor Powell has committed to play for Charleston Southern and will sign Nov. 15. Powell, who plays center field at Summerville, also is an outstanding student. She is currently ranked No. 1 in the senior class.
