A man was hospitalized and his home destroyed due to an early morning blaze in North Charleston.

North Charleston firefighters were called to a house fire on Stonehaven Drive about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, spokeswoman Bianca Bourbeau said.

When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the single-story home. Flames had also breached through the roof, Bourbeau said.

A man who lived at the home sustained burns in the blaze. Paramedics transported him to Trident Medical Center for treatment, Bourbeau said.

It took firefighters about 80 minutes to extinguish the flames. The home was destroyed in the incident.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation, Bourbeau said.
