RALEIGH, N.C. -- Police and North Carolina State Fair officials are investigating what caused an accident on a ride that sent five people to the hospital.
The accident occurred on the “Vortex” about 9:17 p.m. Thursday.
State Fair spokesman Brian Long says officials have received preliminary reports that the passengers were injured when the ride started up again as they were getting off.
He says an ambulance was on the scene immediately, and that two of the injuries “appear to be serious; the other three not as serious.”
Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison told a news conference the injured riders ranged in age from 14 to 39.
