A Cane Bay Middle School student was hospitalized Thursday morning after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bike, officials said.
The Highway Patrol said the wreck happened at about 7:35 a.m. in front of Cane Bay High School, 1624 State Road in Berkeley County. Cane Bay Middle is on Cane Bay Boulevard, across from the high school.
Berkeley County School District spokeswoman Susan Haire said the student was riding a bicycle before being struck. Haire did not report the student’s gender.
Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said a 14-year-old drifted left on a bike and struck the passenger door of a passing vehicle. The teen was taken to Trident Medical Center, she said.
Initial reports said the student was conscious and responsive while being transported, Haire said, and officials met with the student’s parents at the hospital, she said.
