Harris Teeter has replaced most of its share of Piggly Wiggly stores in the Charleston region this week, and Bi-Lo will soon do the same.

Shopping schedule

The local Piggly Wiggly stores that Bi-Lo will close Nov. 2 and reopen Nov. 8 are at:

445 Meeting St., Charleston

630 Skylark Drive, West Ashley

9616 Highway 78, Ladson

3575 Maybank Highway, Johns Island

104 Jungle Road, Edisto Beach

The former Piggly Wiggly stores that have reopened as Harris Teeter supermarkets are at:

1985 Folly Road, Charleston

515 Freshfields Drive, between Seabrook and Kiawah islands

1981 Riviera Drive, Mount Pleasant

1005 Harbor View Road, James Island

1220 Ben Sawyer Blvd., Mount Pleasant (opens Friday)

Harris Teeter and Bi-Lo bought 12 local stores from the Charleston-based Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. in September.

Harris Teeter acquired seven local stores, and five have been updated and were reopened under its name this week.

The next opens at 8 a.m. Friday in Sea Island Shopping Center at Ben Sawyer and Chuck Dawley boulevards in Mount Pleasant.

The two others Harris Teeter acquired won’t reopen for some time. A James Island location at 1739 Maybank Highway is undergoing a complete remodel and is scheduled to reopen in “late” 2014, according to a flier the grocer sent out to residents of that area.

Harris Teeter also bought a future Piggly Wiggly on Isle of Palms that hadn’t been built yet. Plans for that store have not been released.

Bi-Lo bought 18 South Carolina stores and 6 Georgia stores from Piggly Wiggly for $35 million. The sale is scheduled to be finalized Nov. 2. The five local supermarkets that Bi-Lo is acquiring will close that day and reopen under its new brand Nov. 8.

Piggly Wiggly Carolina is scaling back it grocery store holdings, especially in its hometown. The chain’s closest Piggly Wiggly location to downtown Charleston after the Bi-Lo deal will be off Rivers Avenue near Otranto Road in North Charleston.

The company will maintain three other corporate-owned stores in Hollywood, Moncks Corner and St. George in the tricounty area. It also owns Price Wise Foods in Hanahan.

In all, Piggly Wiggly will have 25 company-owned namesake stores in South Carolina and coastal Georgia, 29 independently owned Piggly Wiggly stores and two corporate-owned Price Wise stores.
