Bowman vs. Stephens: High school football picks

It’s hard to believe this is Week 9 of the high school football season. That means the regular season comes to an end next week for Class A, AA and AAA teams.

It’s also hard to believe The Post and Courier’s Phil Bowman picked Fort Dorchester to lose to Colleton County last week. For the record, the Patriots posted a 56-14 road victory against the Cougars, who were celebrating Homecoming.

ABC News Channel 4 expert Dean Stephens didn’t make the same mistake. He picked the Patriots to rebound after their loss to Summerville a week earlier.

Stephens was on target, going 6 for 6 to edge Bowman, who went 5-1.

Here are this week’s picks:

Friday

Hilton Head at Hanahan

Stephens: The Hawks finish their business. Hanahan, 31-7.

Bowman: Nobody is stopping the Hawks this week. Hanahan, 34-14.

Woodland at Bishop England

Stephens: The Bishops battle til the end. Bishop England, 28-24.

Bowman: Bishop England’s 18-game region winning streak comes to an end. Woodland, 21-13.

Wando at Goose Creek

Stephens: Difficult place to get the train back on the track. Goose Creek, 58-14.

Bowman: Reedy’s raiders ready to run the table. Goose Creek, 42-7.

Stratford at West Ashley

Stephens: Knights keep their eyes on the prize. Stratford, 28-7.

Bowman: Stratford’s perfect season continues. Stratford, 24-10.

Bluffton at Fort Dorchester

Stephens: The Patriots defend the fort. Fort Dorchester, 28-21.

Bowman: Picked against Pats last week. Won’t make same mistake. Fort Dorchester, 21-17.

Summerville at Colleton County

Stephens: Summerville picks up another win for Coach McKissick, Summerville, 35-7

Bowman: McKissick gets 609th career victory. Summerville, 21-0.
