IOP connector widening approved
Charleston County Council Tuesday unanimously approved a $2.4 million contract with Banks Construction Co. to widen the Isle of Palms connector. County leaders expect the project to be complete before the 2014 Memorial Day weekend. Banks will face financial penalties if it is late.
The project is designed to make traffic flow more smoothly, especially on busy summer weekends as people head to and from the beaches on the Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island.
The project as designed will make the connector four lanes in Mount Pleasant from U.S. Highway 17 to just past Riviera Drive. It is two lanes now. It also would make changes to improve traffic flow at the connector intersection with Rifle Range Road.
