South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw finished with 7 of 21 passing for 166 yards, one touchdown and one interception, but he added 78 yards on 19 carries.

COLUMBIA – South Carolina's football team is trying to pick up the pieces and move on with its season this week.

After a bitterly disappointing loss at Tennessee, the Gamecocks free fell in the polls. USC was ranked No. 20 in the AP and Coaches Poll on Sunday, and No. 21 in the first BCS standings of the season.

Had Tennessee kicker Michael Palardy – the SEC's Special Teams Player of the Week – missed his game-winning field goal on the final play, the Gamecocks would be in the nation's top 10.

It's a big gap, the distance between winning and losing. But how much did USC's 23-21 loss in Knoxville actually change its chances in the SEC East race? Gamecocks beat writer Ryan Wood will discuss that and much more on his live chat 3:30 p.m. today.
