Crowd meets at Sullivan’s Island for Alex Apps vigil
A crowd gathered at Station 18½ on Sullivan’s Island Sunday night in memory of College of Charleston senior Alex Apps, 25, who was shot to death more than a week ago. He was killed while trying to sell his truck through Craigslist.
Myles McKenna and his father, Lee McKenna, lit candles at the memorial. The McKennas didn’t know Apps personally, but said they came to the vigil after hearing about his story.
Two men have been arrested in the case. Jquan Marqel Scott, 19, of James Island, and Isaac R. Williams, 20, of Rutledge Avenue in Charleston have both been charged with murder and other charges.
A Facebook page called Justice for Alex Apps had generated more than 30,000 “likes” by Sunday.
A petition at change.org calling for the maximum penalty for Apps’ killers has collected more than 5,000 signatures. The petition is seeking 10,000 signatures.
