A gas leak has been contained at East Bay and Elliott streets. An SCE&G crew is continuing repairs and Elliott Street is expected to reopen soon, a company spokesman said.
The street was closed to traffic earlier this evening when the leak was discovered. The problem apparently was a pipe coupling. SCE&G, Charleston Police and Charleston Fire crews responded, said Charles Francis, police spokesman. Elliott is just south of Broad Street.
