Colleton County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting that left a man wounded Thursday.
Walterboro police officers responded to Colleton Medical Center around 4:30 p.m. after a 21-year-old man showed up seeking treatment for a gunshot wound, an incident report states.
The wounded man told police that an unknown gunman shot him in the leg as he walked down Bells Highway. The man heard four or five gunshots, and was hit by at least one of the rounds, police said.
A number of people in that area told police they did not hear any gunshots.
The case was later handed to the Sheriff’s Office after investigators determined the shooting did not happen within Walterboro city limits.
A suspect has not been identified in the case, police said.
