A local developer will formally enter the Republican race for lieutenant governor on Monday.
Pat McKinney will challenge for the seat currently held by GOP incumbent Glenn McConnell.
McKinney recently retired from Kiawah Partners, where he served as managing partner of the real estate company.
He was among the original investors in Kiawah Resort Associates, which invested $105 million to buy Kiawah Island in 1988. KRA then developed the residential portion of the property into a high-end vacation home and golf destination.
He retired from his day-to-day duties at the renamed Kiawah Partners in 2006, but he remained a partner until the business was sold earlier this year.
His biography lists service on various boards, including the South Carolina State Ports Authority, at Furman University and faith-based activities.
Filing for next June’s primary officially opens for all candidates in March.
