North Charleston police on Wednesday arrested a man accused of viewing child pornography on a laptop that had been reported stolen.
Shawn Gibeaut, 27, of Midland Parkway in Summerville, is charged with four counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, jail records show.
The arrest was made in connection with an incident that happened Dec. 24.
A woman told police that a laptop was stolen from the company that she worked for. The computer was equipped with a program that allowed authorities to track what was being viewed while it was activated, an incident report states.
Between April 4 and 5, someone activated the laptop and used it to view multiple images of child pornography, police said.
An IP address led authorities to Gibeaut, police said.
Gibeaut told police that he owned the computer but that the device was no longer at his apartment. Police located the laptop at a computer repair business on Rivers Avenue, police said.
Gibeaut is being held at the Charleston County jail in lieu of a total $20,000 bail.
