Charleston police arrest suspect in Cleveland Street burglary
Charleston police on Tuesday arrested a man accused of stealing a set of tools in a burglary.
William Nelson, 53, of Grove Street in Charleston, is charged with first-degree burglary, jail records show.
The charge was made in connection with an incident that was reported at a Cleveland Street home about 5 a.m. on Tuesday.
A 33-year-old woman told police that she found a man searching her apartment as though he were looking for something to steal.
The woman confronted the intruder and asked what he was doing in her home, an incident report states.
The man then walked out of the apartment, closed the door and walked toward a neighboring unit. Seconds later, the woman reported, the man hurried off toward Oswego Street with a black drill box.
One of the woman’s neighbors, a 43-year-old man, told police that a drill set was missing from his home.
The missing drill was later found in Nelson’s possession, police said.
Nelson is being held at the Charleston County jail in lieu of a $30,000 bail, jail records show.
