Charleston Police released few details surrounding the shooting death of a man in West Ashley on Tuesday morning.

Malcolm Jefferson, 18, of Charleston, died after he was shot at 1139 Forbes Ave., according to officials with Charleston County Coroner’s Office.

Police responded to the home at 12:05 a.m. and found Jefferson, who later died at the Medical University Hospital, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said. Investigators called the investigation a homicide.

Charleston Police and a Charleston County Sheriff’s Office deputy remained outside the home until around 8 a.m. using their flashlights to search the grass in the home’s yard. Yellow crime scene tape blocked the backyard of the home, where two vehicles were parked.

On Tuesday afternoon, an incident report released by the police department revealed little information about the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The report stated the victim, later identified as Jefferson, had multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. The name of another subject involved in the case was redacted from the report and Charleston Police said the supplemental reports had not been written yet.

The shooting occurred at the last known address of a 34-year-old man who was arrested in connection with a West Ashley drug bust in May. Randolph Oliver was one of five people arrested at a Magnolia Road home where police seized crack and powder cocaine, marijuana and more than $1,500 in cash, authorities said.

Oliver is out on bail in connection with the drug case. It was unclear this morning whether Oliver still lives at the Forbes Avenue home.

No suspect has been identified in the shooting, according to police.
