Board of Trustees Chairman Tom Stephenson said the Presidential Search Committee met Friday and interviewed three possible firms to facilitate the search for a new president. The full board will make a final decision about which firm to hire on Friday during its regular meeting.
“Then we’ll begin assembling candidates,” Stephenson said.
Former President Ray Greenberg left MUSC last month for a job within the University of Texas health care system. Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Mark Sothmann will serve as interim president until the Board of Trustees names Greenberg’s permanent replacement.
Stephenson said he hopes to bring a short list, possibly three candidates, to Charleston in early 2014 to interview for the position.
“We’ll not have a replacement until late next spring,” he said.
The search committee is still finalizing its recommendation about which search firm the Board of Trustees should hire.
“I was pretty pleased that any of them that we interviewed could do a good job,” said Tom Smith, MUSC Faculty Senate President and a member of the Presidential Search Committee. “We just have to pick the best one.”
The MUSC Board of Trustees will meet at 9 a.m. Friday on campus at Colcock Hall. Board meetings are open to the public.
The College of Charleston and Clemson University are also in the process of replacing outgoing presidents.
