Traffic backed up on southbound lanes of Ravenel Bridge, accident involves police cruiser

A four-car wreck that included a Mount Pleasant Police cruiser backed up traffic on thesouthbound lanes on the Ravenel Bridge. (South Carolina Department of Transportation/Provided)

Traffic is backed up on U.S. Highway 17 South on the Ravenel Bridge due to an accident involving four cars including a police cruiser, according to Mount Pleasant police officials.

Two Mount Pleasant Police cruiser were assisting with a disabled vehicle on the bridge. During that time another car struck one of the police cruisers from behind, according to police officials.

No one was injured, according to police. The wreck is being investigated.

Only two lanes are open heading into Charleston on the southbound lanes, officials said.

Police estimated at 3:17 p.m. that the lanes should be reopen in about 10 minutes.
