Investigators who found a body just over the Ravenel Bridge in Mount Pleasant Monday night suspect foul play.
Charleston County detectives found the body about 8:30 p.m. in a wooded area near a substation off McGrath Darby Boulevard, Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said. Foul play is suspected, he said.
The sheriff’s and coroner’s offices were working on identification Monday night.
A strong smell of decay was in the air some distance from where the body was found.
A link with a 25-year-old man who was reported missing earlier in the day had not been established, Brady said.
William Alexander Apps, 25, of Meeting Street was reported missing Monday afternoon. He was last seen in Charleston and Mount Pleasant around 5 p.m. Thursday.
Investigators didn’t release any information on the sex or approximate age of the body that was found Monday night.
The sheriff’s mobile command unit pulled up around 11 p.m. Investigators expected to spend most of the night on scene.
More information will be posted here when it becomes available.
