A man is dead after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Dorchester Road, North Charleston police said.
The incident happened shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Dorchester Road and Olivia Drive, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.
The 52-year-old man appeared to have been crossing the street from the Evanston Plaza Shopping Center when he was rammed by an oncoming sport utility vehicle, Pryor said.
The injured man was transported to Medical University Hospital in critical condition, Pryor said. He later died there from his injuries.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the dead man as Lewis Brewington of North Charleston.
The SUV’s driver does not face charges, Pryor said.
The incident remains under investigation, he said.
