A man barricaded himself in a house on Leadenwah Road on Wadmalaw Island Friday afternoon, but negotiators were able to talk him into surrendering, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., Charleston County warrants detectives attempted to pull over a man wanted on three outstanding warrants, but he failed to stop and, traveling at about 10 miles per hour, pulled into the driveway of his residence and ran into the house, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A family member told deputies that the man had previously said if deputies showed up he was going to harm himself.
Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said in a statement that at about 6:30 p.m. negotiators were able to get Pearce W. Settle, 48, of 1806 Leadenwah Road, to surrender to SWAT deputies. He was arrested after some resistance, according to Brady.
Settle is being held, pending a bail hearing, at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center on charges of grand larceny and obtaining goods under false pretenses, Brady stated.
