Officers checking out a man loitering in the parking lot of a North Charleston hotel ended up finding a meth lab inside one of the rooms, according to North Charleston police.
Three people were arrested on drug charges Wednesday night at Springhill Suites on North Forest Drive.
Amanda Lee Miller, 28, of Evangeline Drive in North Charleston, Glenn Randall Lane II, 27, of Oakridge Drive in North Charleston and Daniel E. Johnston, 31, of Woodstock Road in Mount Pleasant were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine.
They were also charged with malicious damage to property after cutting a hole in a window screen to throw out evidence when police knocked on the door, according to the incident report.
Miller was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and trespassing after notice for refusing to leave the room when told by management.
Officers patrolling the parking lot questioned Clinton Joseph Clark, 28, of East Arctic on Folly Beach when they saw him standing by a car, according to the report. He told them he was waiting for friends inside the motel. He was arrested when police found out the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office had an active warrant for him.
Officers went inside to find out whose car Clark was standing beside, since it was unattended with the windows down. The manager led them to Miller’s room. She refused to open the door when they knocked. Officers outside the hotel said they saw the occupants throw two glass bongs through a hole they cut in a screen.
After the occupants finally opened the door, officers found materials indicating an active “one pot cook” meth lab inside the room, according to the report.
One other man was also arrested on an unrelated charge. Charles Remington O’Conner, 18, of North Arco Lane in North Charleston approached two officers and asked what was going on. He was arrested after officers found out Summerville police had a warrant for him, according to the report.
