Man found dead in Ravenel was kidnapped after bad drug deal, investigators say; suspect arrested
A Charleston man who turned up dead in August was kidnapped over a bad drug deal, and a suspect has been arrested, investigators say.
Delvin A. Seagers, 34, of Ranger Drive, was arrested Thursday by Charleston County detectives and members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force, according to sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady. Seagers was charged with kidnapping.
Nathaniel Forbes, 35, was found dead Aug. 10 at the end of Pine Hill Road in Ravenel.
A witness told detectives that Seagers paid Forbes $8,000 for drugs the day before and that Forbes left his house to fix a problem with the deal, according to the arrest affidavit. The witness said Seagers called him from Forbes’ phone that night and said he wanted his money back. The witness said he could hear Forbes in the background saying he couldn’t see, indicating he was being held against his will.
Another witness told detectives he saw Forbes leaving a Hess Express with Seagers the night of Aug. 9.
Seagers was being held in the Charleston County jail Thursday. The investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 202-1700 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
