Piggly Wiggly launches big sale at multiple stores being sold to Harris Teeter
Piggly Wiggly announced inventory reduction sales Wednesday morning at five Charleston-area stores that are being sold to Harris Teeter, with discounts up to 50 percent on some merchandise.
Unlike a sale that began Monday at the Maybank Highway Piggly Wiggly, where every item was half-off and checkout lines stretched to the back of the store, the sale that began Wednesday is focused on perishable and store-brand items.
Shoppers will need a “Pig Card” in order to get the sale prices.
The stores are:
1985 Folly Road, Folly Beach
1739 Maybank Highway, James Island
1005 Harborview Road, James Island
1220 Ben Sawyer Boulevard (Sea Island Shopping Center), Mount Pleasant
1981 Riviera Drive (Seaside Farms), Mount Pleasant
Fresh flowers, greeting cards, Newton Farms products, Pig Swig beer, Grace Bridge wines, and Piggly Wiggly logo merchandise is now half-price at those stores.
Deli and bakery items, such as sliced-to-order meat, cheeses, rotisserie chicken and cookies, have been marked down 40 percent.
Fresh meat and seafood, and frozen seafood, are marked down 30 percent, as are grocery items that carry the Piggly Wiggly, Top Care, Price Wise and certain other brand names.

Piggly Wiggly is in the process of selling 29 stores to Harris Teeter and Bi-Lo. The sales that began Wednesday involve locations being sold to Harris Teeter.
In addition, two Piggly Wiggly stores that were not sold will be closing. Those stores, at Festival Centre in North Charleston, and the Northbridge store in West Ashley, marked all merchandise down 25 percent on Monday.
The Maybank Highway store, where the half-off-everything sale began Monday, will close for months for remodelling before re-opening as a Harris Teeter. As of Tuesday night, that sale was ongoing, but the inventory was mostly gone. Frozen foods and inexpensive wine were still in good supply.
