A fatal crash occurred on Interstate 26 overnight in Berkeley County, according to S.C. Highway Patrol officials.
The crash happened at 12:01 a.m. on mile marker 203. Two cars were traveling east on I-26 when one of the car’s drivers stopped the car, blocking two lanes of traffic, authorities said.
The second car struck that stopped vehicle, according to Highway Patrol officials. The driver of the stopped vehicle was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to Trident Health hospital, where he died, according to authorities.
Berkeley County’s Coroner Bill Salisbury identified the driver who died as 89-year-old Albert Szczepkowski of Bradenton, Fla.
The crash remains under investigation.
