Frierson Elementary School on Wadmalaw Island was locked down for two hours today, but the lockdown has been lifted, according to investigators.
At 12:40 p.m. the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office was notified about shots being heard in the wooded area behind the school, according to investigators.
They were advised the shots could be hunters, authorities said.
The area was searched but no one was found with a gun, according to sheriff’s officials. The lockdown at the school, which is on Maybank Highway, lasted about two hours.
