CLEMSON — Clemson freshman guard Patrick Rooks will miss the upcoming basketball season after injuring his hip during preseason workouts.
Tigers coach Brad Brownell announced Rooks’ status Friday. Clemson is opening basketball practice on Sunday.
Rooks, a 6-3, 175-pound guard from Charlotte, played for the Tigers on their trip to Italy last month. Brownell said Rooks will need surgery and the recovery time will keep him from playing this season.
Brownell said Rooks shot the ball well on the team’s European trip and would’ve helped Clemson’s 3-point shooting.
Stingrays head coach Spencer Carbery announced that the team agreed to terms with forward Anthony Collins.
Collins, 23, enters his second pro campaign after appearing in 35 games with the Mississippi Surge of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) last season, scoring two goals and four assists for six points and adding 130 penalty minutes.
College of Charleston overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat Northeastern, 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-22), and give the Cougars their first win in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Charleston (11-4, 1-0) held the host Huskies (7-7, 0-1) to a .137 hitting percentage.
Jessica Brezwyn recorded a match-high 18 kills and added 16 digs to lead UNC Greensboro to a 3-1 (25-17, 35-37, 25-10, 25-16) victory over The Citadel at McAlister Field House.
The Citadel (4-12, 0-1 SoCon) was led by the front row of Ise d’Angelo (11 kills), Katie Briggs (10) and Mallory Moore (9).
College of Charleston fell short in its CAA debut with a 3-0 loss to Northeastern at Patriots Point.
