ORANGEBURG — The president of South Carolina State University in Orangeburg wants to add a provost and give deans full responsibility for their academic areas.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports (http://bit.ly/1bLrPnp) that Thomas Elzey’s plan would put the provost directly under the president and in charge of all academic areas.
Elzey says that would demonstrate academics are the school’s primary purpose.
The university’s executive committee on Thursday agreed to send Elzey’s plans to the full board with one exception. He had proposed that the school’s internal auditor report to the president rather than the board. But the trustees said the auditor should operate independently of the administration.
The plan will be taken up by the full board at its meeting next week.
