Charleston man accused of stealing pills from neighbor’s medicine cabinet
Charleston police on Tuesday arrested a man accused of stealing pills from his neighbor’s medicine cabinet.
Jeffrey Grooms, 49, of Honeysuckle Lane on James Island is charged with second-degree burglary in connection with the incident, jail records show.
Police officers were called to the home of one of Grooms’ neighbors concerning a burglary, an incident report states.
Two women who live at the home told police that someone rummaged through their medicine cabinet while they were gone. The women reported that several Phentermine, Prozac and Xanax, Levothyroxine and Zithromax pills were stolen.
Nothing else appeared to be missing from the home, police said.
The lock on the home’s back door was broken when the burglary occurred, according to the incident report.
Police said one of the women recalled Grooms asking whether she had any Valium. The woman replied that she didn’t, according to the report.
Grooms also knew that the back door’s lock was broken, police said.
Grooms is being held at the Charleston County jail pending a bond hearing.
