North Charleston will hold an open house Wednesday evening to show off Wescott Park, the city’s new $14.1 million park and youth baseball complex in Dorchester County.
The sports facility opened in July and hosted the AAA Dixie Youth baseball state tournament and the Dixie softball tournament that month.
Wescott Park is partially a youth-focused baseball facility, with three fields designed to look like the Braves’ Turner Field, Boston’s Fenway Park and San Francisco’s AT&T Park. There is a Ripken Training Circle, batting cages, practice pitching mounds and a baseball-themed playground.
Wescott Park is also an expansive green space with nature trails, a dog park, enclosed and open-air shelters and an amphitheater.
Planned since at least 2005, construction on the park started in October 2011. The roughly 50-acre park is located behind North Charleston’s Fire Station 11 at 9002 Dorchester Road.
The open house will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.
