Road trips to Tennessee, Wake Forest and Nebraska and a home date with College of Charleston highlight The Citadel’s 2013-14 basketball schedule announced today.

The 30-game slate also includes the opening All-Military Classic at VMI, with Air Force and Army also in the tournament, and a Dec. 4 game at Navy.

The 14-game home schedule includes a Dec. 29 game with the rival Cougars, who will play in the Colonial Athletic Association this season after leaving the Southern Conference.

“Our non-conference schedule is once again very difficult and will give us a good read on how good we can be this season when conference play begins,” said fourth-year coach Chuck Driesell. “I do like the fact that this year we have a better balance of home and away games during the months of November and December. This should help with our confidence and, of course, give our fans at home an opportunity to see us play a few more times in McAlister Field House than last season.”

Last year, the Bulldogs played no home games in December while going 8-22 overall and 5-13 in the SoCon.

The Citadel’s opener at VMI will be carried on ESPNU, and home games against Chattanooga (Jan. 6) and Samford (Feb. 24) will be televised by CSS Sports.

“The All-Military Classic has truly grown into a special event and I can’t think of a better way to kick off our 2013-14 season than playing on ESPNU in front of a national television audience,” said Driesell. “I know our players and fans will be excited to watch and be a part of this year’s tournament.”

The rest of the non-conference home schedule includes Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb of the Big South Conference along with non-Division I foes North Greenville, Montreat and Brevard.

Davidson will make its final trip to The Citadel as a SoCon rival on Feb. 12. The Wildcats are headed to the Atlantic 10 in 2014-15. Georgia Southern, Appalachian State and Elon are also playing their final seasons in the SoCon; GSU and App State are headed to the Sun Belt, and Elon to the Colonial.
