27 Farmfield Ave. — Roomy, elegant Parkwood Heights home in West Ashley boasts stylish interior and towering front-yard oak
Showing the house one day last week, June Kemmerlin Matzner made a point to remark about the family quarters. “This is my favorite room,” she says.
Hardwood floors highlight the gathering place, centered by a large wood-burning brick chimney with rectangular opening to stack wood. The oversized family room connects on either end to the kitchen and the foyer, while the two-way fireplace also opens to the dining room.

Matzner, a Realtor with AgentOwned Realty, is listing agent for 27 Farmfield Ave. west of the Ashley. Built in 1974, the 4,200-square-foot home commands a sale price of $568,500.
The two-level brick residence touts plenty of features, notably five bedrooms and four-and-a half baths plus a renovated kitchen. A relatively open layout provides would-be buyers with options to revamp the house.
“The shell is here; they can do what they want to,” says Betty Beckum, the owner.
Outside, the half-acre property showcases a large front yard bordering quiet Farmfield Avenue. A prodigious live oak rises from the lawn, offering ample shade.

“You can do a lot with this lot,” Matzner says.

Decades ago, the property was part of Farmfield Plantation — laid out in the 1850s and once covering 250 acres from Savannah Highway to Folly Road. The original plantation house stands at the foot of Farmfield Avenue, protected by land conservation easements.

The house sits near the entrance to Parkwood Heights. Heading south, take Savannah Highway past the Avondale business district. Continue for not quite a mile. Turn left at the traffic light on Farmfield Avenue. Travel past a few businesses into the neighborhood. Ahead on the right is 27 Farmfield Ave.
