With a strong running game, anchored by Ivan Wiggins, and an opportunistic defense that scored two touchdowns, the Military Magnet Eagles whipped Stall, 38-21, on Thursday night.

Wiggins, a 5-3, 140-pound sparkplug, rushed for more than 100 yards as the Eagles rolled up more than 250 yards on the ground to improve to 3-2 on the season. The Eagles also returned two interceptions for touchdowns and forced six turnovers.

“This is a good building block win for us, and I thought our guys played very hard all night,” said Military Magnet head coach Gene Ross. “I am really proud of our kids. They played their tails off tonight and made a lot of good things happen.”

Military Magnet totally dominated the first half of play as Stall struggled offensively. The Warriors had three turnovers on their first eight offensive snaps and Magnet took advantage.

Military Magnet covered 79 yards on its first possession, with DeAngelo Rivers capping the eight-play drive with a 13-yard run four minutes into the game.

Stall (1-3) answered on the ensuing kickoff as Dominique Richardson returned the kick 68 yards for a touchdown. Joe Vasquez’s extra point put Stall on top, 7-6.

Early in the second quarter, Michael Richardson scored on a one-yard run to give Magnet a 12-7 lead.

Two minutes later, Kadeem Woods intercepted a Benjie Wright pass and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown, pushing the lead to 18-7.

Stall fumbled on the first play of its next possession, and five plays later, Rivers connected with Byron Fazio on a four-yard scoring toss for a 24-7 lead.

Stall finally put together a solid offensive drive just before the half. The Warriors went on a 71-yard drive with Wright hitting Jordan Carswell with a 21-yard touchdown pass with 1:13 left in the half, cutting the halftime margin to 24-14.

The Warriors had two more turnovers in the second half, one leading to a five-yard TD run by Wiggins and the other a 22-yard interception return for touchdown by Marcus Dickinson with 9:28 left in the game.

Stall’s final TD came on Wright’s 34-yard strike to Cars-well that cut the lead to 38-21.
