A 28-year-old Goose Creek man faces several charges in connection with a kidnapping incident that reportedly happened on Aviation Avenue in North Charleston last week.
North Charleston police on Tuesday arrested Chavias Jenkins on charges of carjacking, armed robbery, kidnapping and possession of a firearm during a violent crime. He is being held at the Charleston County jail.
Shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the area of Twitty Street in reference to a woman reporting she had been kidnapped.
The 19-year-old victim told police she answered an ad on Craigslist to purchase a cell phone from a woman. The agreed-upon place to meet was the Waffle House on Aviation Avenue.
According to the victim, she was approached by a man with a gun who forced her into the vehicle’s driver seat and told her to “slide over.” He then drove her car towards the Russeldale neighborhood, police said.
The woman was told to get out of the vehicle near Twitty Street and the suspect fled the area with her cell phone and $370 in cash, police said. She was able to flee to a nearby house and use a cell phone to call police, according to a police report.
A short time later her vehicle was located outside of an apartment complex on Kerry Street. The woman was not injured, according to police.
Investigators arrested Jenkins at his mother’s home on Amy Drive in Goose Creek, police said. Authorities did not immediately say how they tied Jenkins to the crime.
