A former office manager at a Mount Pleasant law firm was sentenced today to one year and one day in federal prison for embezzling more than $128,000 from the practice.

Amanda Elizabeth Michel, who now goes by Amanda Shealy, also was ordered to pay full restitution and report to a supervised program for three years after she is released.

Shealy, 35, acknowledged she forged checks for seven years while employed at Mason Law Firm. She spent the money on personal expenses.

“I’m not the person I was back then,” Shealy told U.S. District Court Judge Richard Gergel at her sentencing hearing in Charleston. “I was lost and broken.”

She was indicted in September 2012, and she pleaded guilty in February to wire fraud.

Shealy now lives in Lexington County.
